What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?
HBOT is simply the combination of increased inspired oxygen under increased atmospheric pressure. Our soft shell chamber inflates with air to a fixed volume and pressure; equivalent to sitting 10 feet beneath seawater. At sea level (1ATA), there is 21% oxygen in the air, the rest is mostly nitrogen. In the HBOT Chamber we can increase the amount of inspired oxygen to as much as 100%.
Under increased atmospheric pressure oxygen can easily diffuse and saturate both haemoglobin and blood plasma, increasing the oxygen carrying capacity of our red blood cells. Consequently, there is an increased ability for oxygen to reach tissues, muscles and organs via enhanced circulation – possibly giving rise to the powerful healing abilities of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
The Experience
Your Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy experience is fully guided and supported by trained members of the Revital Health Team. After securing a HBOT Session you will be well informed as to how to prepare for your session, what to expect, testing requirements and your personalised protocol development.
Our Hyperbaric Chamber is spacious once inflated and provides a sense of safety and comfort with a mattress and sit up chair. Electronic devices (laptops, iPads, phones, music devices) are allowed in the chamber; but our clinicians encourage you to embrace the experience of sensory deprivation and utilise non-disturbed time for meditations, reading a book or simply relaxing!
The entire Hyperbaric Experience takes approximately 60-120 minutes depending on the length of your session and – based on clinical trials – it is best to complete consecutive treatments to get the most out of hyperbaric healing capabilities.
The Sessions
Hyperbaric Treatment Protocols are patient-specific, but best delivered in consecutive treatments for a set period of time (e.g. 2-4 sessions per week for 4 weeks).
